Beginning of School Year Attendance Letter
Dear Lincoln Families,
At Lincoln Elementary we care about our student’s attendance. Consistent attendance is an essential first step for students to learn. Your student’s future is our first priority and we want to partner with you to ensure their success. If your child is unable to attend or will be tardy, please call the office prior to 9:30 am to excuse their absence or tardiness. There is also an option to report an absence on ParentSquare under the “Links” section.
Washington State Law (HB2449) requires schools and school districts to take certain steps to eliminate or reduce a student’s absences as listed below:
After one unexcused absence the school must inform the parent/guardian in writing or by phone of absence. We utilize ParentSquare to communicate these absences.
After three unexcused absences in one month, the school must schedule a conference with the parent/guardian and student to identify any barriers and take steps to reduce further absences. At this point, an Attendance Success Plan will be established.
If further excessive absences accrue, schools are required to either refer students to a Community Engagement Board (CEB) or file a truancy petition with Kittitas County Juvenile Court.
Additionally, we are required to meet with the parent/guardian and child for any student who has five or more excused absences in one month or 10 or more excused absences in the current year except when:
Prior written notice was given or a doctor’s note was provided
An academic plan was put in place to keep the student on track
